Course profile: Read Faster, Read Smarter

The higher you go in your career the more paperwork you have to read, and the less time you have to do so... or so it seems. Too often managers who have sharpened their management skills in other areas still tackle their reading with the techniques they learned in infant school. They need not.

What are the course objectives?

This course teaches techniques for reading business correspondence and reports, newspapers, magazines and professional journals faster, with improved comprehension and retention. The ultimate aim is get you through your paperwork faster and ‘smarter’, without cluttering up your desk or your mind with the unnecessary. Delegates who spend hours a day reading at work can save half that time or more, every working day… forever.

What topics does the course cover?

Course topics can vary to meet specific needs, but normally include the following:

  • Assessing your present reading speed and comprehension
  • Understanding what reading is and what factors affect it
  • Identifying bad, slow-you-down reading habits
  • Learning new, speed-you-up reading habits
  • Improving your comprehension and retention of what you read
  • Adapting to different kinds and styles of reading materials
  • Finding information fast with skimming and scanning
  • Assessing your final reading speed and comprehension

What teaching method does it use?

We minimise lecturing and reinforce learning with reading exercises that practice the new techniques. Each attendee gets a ring binder of handouts and exercises to take away.

Who is the course suitable for?

The course is for all who want to get through their reading at work faster and smarter.

How long does it last?

The course comes in either a one-day or a two-day version.

How many people can attend at one time?

A maximum of 15 delegates is ideal for this course.

What does it cost?

Read Faster, Read Smarter costs £1250 per day, however many attend. This includes course materials but not travel expenses (plane/train/mileage, hotels, meals) or VAT.

Reading ‘smarter’ is one of the most overlooked ways to save time (on and off the job), improve productivity, relieve stress and boost morale. Although the real results come after some weeks of practising the course techniques, many delegates improve during the course itself. Most attendees reaction to the course is this: “Why didn’t I learn this years ago!?”
